In Sooke the business community is based in the downtown core and consists of supermarkets, pharmacies, the hardware store, 2 shopping malls, several financial institutions, dentists, doctors and more. That is the essence of the walkabout core in Sooke that serves the region's population of approximately 15,000. 

Opportunities abound for the entrepreneur who does their market research and is prepared to give the same excellence in customer service that locals and visitors are accustomed to receiving. The Economic Development Commission has recognized gaps in the service and retail sectors as well as the commercial lands and properties in Sooke. Zoning and the Official Community Plan are aimed towards a vibrant community, allowing for growth and change.

Not all business is restricted to the downtown area. Besides a growing Industrial Park, many high tech businesses or home operations that do not require urban centers for their productivity, choose Sooke for its serenity. It is a great place for employees and their families and just 45 minutes from Victoria, B.C.’s capital.

Tourism is one of Sooke’s major industries and a driving force in the economy. Sooke boasts many bed and breakfast establishments, vacation rental homes, spas and other retreats. New and expanding facilities are also in the works.

The Voice of Business

The Sooke Harbour Chamber of Commerce represents the many businesses in Sooke and area.  Established in 1948, the Chamber is a voice for issues affecting the community and promotes an environment in which business can thrive and protect the welfare of the citizens of Sooke. Membership affords all the privileges of any BC Chamber of Commerce.
